How to use this calculator

Type your account size, the % you're willing to lose if the stop is hit, your stop loss in pips, and the pip value for one standard lot (100,000 units). For most pairs quoted in US dollars, like EUR/USD, that pip value is about $10. For other pairs, check your broker's pip value.

The math: money at risk = account × risk %. Lots = money at risk ÷ (stop loss pips × pip value per lot). Round down to what your broker allows.

How do I calculate lot size in forex?

Multiply your account by your risk % to get the money at risk. Divide that by your stop loss in pips times the pip value per standard lot. The answer is your size in standard lots.

What is a standard, mini and micro lot?

A standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency, a mini lot is 10,000 and a micro lot is 1,000. So 1 standard lot equals 10 mini lots or 100 micro lots.

What pip value should I use?

For pairs where the US dollar is the second currency, such as EUR/USD or GBP/USD, one pip on a standard lot is about $10. Other pairs change with the exchange rate, so use your broker's figure.

What risk % should I use?

That's your call. Many traders keep risk small per trade so a losing streak doesn't wipe out the account. Type any % to see the size it gives.

Does a bigger stop loss mean a smaller lot?

Yes. With the same money at risk, a wider stop means a smaller position, and a tighter stop means a bigger one.

Does this calculator save my numbers?

No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
