What is Forward Testing?
Updated October 17, 2026
Forward testing is running a strategy in real time, often on demo, to see if it holds up after backtesting.
After a backtest looks good, you run it live on new data you didn't tune for. That's forward testing.
It shows how a bot handles real spreads, news and slippage.
Give it weeks or months, not days. A short lucky streak doesn't mean much.
Example
You run a new EA on a demo account for three months before putting real money on it.
Questions people ask
Demo or live for forward testing?
Start on demo, then a small live account to see real fills.
How long should I forward test?
Long enough to see many trades and at least one rough patch.
