What is Pipette?

Updated October 17, 2026

A pipette is one tenth of a pip, the fifth decimal place on most currency pairs.

Most brokers now show prices with an extra digit. That last little digit is the pipette, also called a fractional pip.

So if EURUSD shows 1.08503, the 3 at the end is three pipettes. Ten pipettes make one pip.

It's mostly useful for seeing tighter spreads and more precise prices. Don't mix it up with pips when you set a stop loss.

Example

A spread shown as 12 points on MetaTrader is really 1.2 pips.

Questions people ask

Why does MetaTrader show points instead of pips?

Do pipettes change my profit much?

Each one is small, but they add up on big positions or with frequent trades.
