What is Quote Currency?

Updated October 20, 2026

The quote currency is the second currency in a pair and shows the price of the base.

In GBPUSD, the dollar is the quote. Price tells you how many dollars one pound costs.

Your profit is usually figured in the quote currency first, then converted to your account currency.

That's why pip value differs between pairs.

Example

In EURJPY, the yen is the quote, so profits are first counted in yen.
