Do AI trading bots actually make money?
Updated October 16, 2026
Some do for a while, many do not. Public contests in 2026 showed most AI models lost money over short tests, and big wins posted online are rarely verified. A bot follows rules without emotion, which helps, but fees, bad markets and risky settings can wipe out gains. Results are never certain.
A trading bot is only as good as its strategy and settings. In calm, trending markets a simple rule based bot can do fine. When markets change, the same bot can give back months of gains.
Online screenshots of huge wins skip the losers. People rarely post the accounts that blew up, so what you see is a filtered picture.
If you test one, use a demo first, then a small live amount, check the max drawdown, and avoid grid or martingale styles that hide risk until one bad week.

Questions people ask
How much can a trading bot make per month?
There is no reliable number. Returns swing month to month and can be negative. Anyone quoting a fixed monthly figure is selling something.
Are free trading bots safe?
Free bots often use risky styles like martingale. Some also ask for account access. Check the strategy and the source before connecting anything.
