What is Day Trading?

Updated October 19, 2026

Day trading is opening and closing trades within the same day, never holding overnight.

Day traders want quick moves and no overnight risk.

It takes time, focus and fast decisions, which is why many hand it to bots.

Costs add up fast with lots of trades, so tight spreads matter.

Example

You buy EURUSD in the London session and close it by lunch for 15 pips.

Questions people ask

Do I need a lot of time to day trade?

Usually yes, a few focused hours a day.

Is day trading riskier?

It's more intense and easy to overtrade, which adds risk.
