What is Swing Trading?

Updated October 19, 2026

Swing trading means holding trades for days or weeks to catch bigger moves.

Swing traders don't stare at screens all day. They look at higher timeframes and wait.

It fits people with jobs because you check charts once or twice a day.

Swaps and weekend gaps are part of the deal.

Example

You buy GBPUSD on Monday and close it the next Friday for a 120 pip move.

What's the best indicator for swing trading?

There's no single best indicator, it really depends on your own strategy and the stock you're watching. A lot of swing traders lean on moving averages, RSI, or MACD to spot trends and momentum shifts. These tools can help you read the market, but they're not a sure thing, so you can still lose money.
