What is Margin Level?

Updated October 17, 2026

Margin level is your equity divided by used margin, shown as a percentage, and it tells you how safe your account is.

Your platform shows margin level as a percent. Higher is safer.

Brokers set a margin call level and a stop out level, often around 100% and 50%. Drop below those and trouble starts.

If you see it sliding toward those numbers, it's time to cut size or close losers.

Example

Equity of $600 and used margin of $300 gives a margin level of 200%.
