What is Limit Order?
Updated October 18, 2026
A limit order is an order to buy below or sell above the current price, filling only at your price or better.
With a buy limit you wait for price to drop to your level. With a sell limit you wait for it to rise.
You get a better price, but price may never reach it.
Lots of traders put limit orders at support or resistance and walk away.
Example
Gold is at 2,410. You place a buy limit at 2,395 and it fills when price dips.
Questions people ask
