What is Standard Lot?
Updated October 17, 2026
A standard lot is a trade size of 100,000 units of the base currency, shown as 1.00 on most platforms.
A standard lot is the classic full size trade. On EURUSD each pip is worth about $10.
That sounds small until price moves 50 pips against you and you're down $500. That's why standard lots are for bigger accounts.
Most new traders never need to touch a full lot. Smaller lots let you learn without big swings.
Example
Buying 1.00 lot of EURUSD and catching a 30 pip move makes about $300, but losing 30 pips costs the same.
Questions people ask
How much money do I need for a standard lot?
It depends on leverage, but you'd want a large account so a normal stop loss is only a small percent of it.
Is 1.00 on MetaTrader a standard lot?
Yes, 1.00 means one standard lot.
